800 gmReal Good boneless chicken breasts
100 mllight soya sauce
50 mlJapanese rice wine or dry vermouth
50 mlsaké or dry sherry
2 tbspoil
50 gmcastor sugar
1” pieceginger root
3-4 clovesgarlic
8spring onions (white and green)
2 tbsptoasted sesame seeds
16bamboo satay sticks
Here is an exciting recipe for Chicken Yakitori.
  • Step 01

    Put peeled ginger and garlic in the processor and grind coarsely. Add the soya, rice wine, saké, oil and sugar. Mix well.
  • Step 02

    Marinate the chicken pieces in the marinade, preferably overnight.
  • Step 03

    Peel and cut the spring onions into quarters.
  • Step 04

    Soak and drain the skewers, then thread the chicken and the spring onion pieces. Sprinkle the toasted sesame seeds on the chicken.
  • Step 05

    Cook on a medium grill or oven until the chicken is cooked.
  • Step 06

    Transfer the remaining marinade to a pan and allow to boil for about 5 minutes or till it becomes syrupy.
  • Step 07

    Coat the chicken lightly with the marinade and serve hot.
